THINGS OF THRIFT AND BEAUTY
This years August Exhibition pays Homage to the Welsh Quilt
We have added a number of quilts to the display this year, although Personally I love the
Whole Cloth Quilts the best as they show most clearly the textural pattern of the stitching so typical
and individual to Wales. None the less we have tried to add one of each kind in order to show the
different methods of quiltmaking found throughout Wales.
Many of the quilts on display this year demonstrate so perfectly the Welsh love for decoration and
colour and that it is not always the finest quality quilts that possess the greatest charm as so many
quilts even those made in the humblest of homes make up for what they lack in the availability of
the finer cloths in their use of intricate stitchery.
This years exhibition will be followed by a set of Classes introducing the the methods of Patchwork
and stitchery traditionally used in Welsh quilt making.
