2022..2023 Museum Exhibitions

Folk Costume of Wales

This Summers exhibition gives us a chance to look more closely at the Folk Costume of Wales,

the majority of the pieces in this collection pre date mass production and were woven in the small rural

Mills which worked hand in hand their own local communities.

During the 20th Century we have become fondly attached to the belief in

there being a universal 'Welsh National Costume'. However this exhibition seeks to show the diversity

of cloth, color and garments that was produced during the 18th and 19th Centuries highlighting the

regional differences and styles worn by different communities.

Since moving to our permanent home at the Old School, we have collected many new exhibits and added to the

Mapping Project started in 2018 where we try to delve into the early origins of Wool production in Wales.

Continuing on from Cottage Industry to Mill this years exhibition begins to take a closer look at the work of the

Handloom Weavers beginning with the summer exhibition of Folk Costumes to which we hope to add during the

year leading us on to the following exhibition of Handloom Weaving Spring Summer 2023
