Museum of Welsh Textiles, Museum Gallery and teaching center About The Old School Museum & Gallery Welcome to Radnorshire arts and Crafts Foundation, A group of Artists and Crafts people working in Radnorshire who came together to promote and exhibit handmade and artisan crafts. Inspired by the most beautiful countryside we reflect our appreciation for our surroundings by working in natural materials, drawing from traditional crafts and exploring true artistry to create something new for today. We began life in 2010 teaching and running Artist and Makers events, in 2017 we took on The Old School in Whitton, Radnorshire where we hoped to set up A Museum Gallery and Teaching Facility The old school has a delightful history it was bequeathed by A local Lady, 'Dame Anna Child' in 1703 for the education of local children, the old schoolrooms built in 1834, lend themselves perfectly to their new use as a Museum, whilst the modern extension houses a Gallery and teaching space The Old School The Old School is the new home of the Museum of Welsh Textiles, the Museum occupies the original School Rooms built in 1834 , The New wing Houses the Gallery and Teaching space. Museum The Museum is dedicated to the history of the Welsh Textile Industry, and exhibits a different Selection from the collection each year. allowing a rare glimpse into the craftsmanship of the past, Gallery The Gallery shows a selection of contemporary work from local Artists and Makers, Teaching Throughout the year we hold a variety of Classes and Study days where you can learn more about the history and the techniques used in the production of some of the exhibits shown in the Museum and Gallery.

Border Lands Arts culture & places of interest Radnorshire Borderlands This page is for visitors to the area, The old County of Radnorshire is nestled in between Montgomeryshire to the north and Brecknockshire to the south, these are the three old counties which now form modern day Powys, with the Cambrian Mountains to the west and England on its eastern borde., We are none the less most certainly in Wales with Offas Dyke winding its way down from Knighton and crossing the river valey below the School, The border itself now runs just outside Presteigne to our east., These Borderlands and the English counteys of Shropshire and Herefordshire once formed a part of the Marcher lordshios, an area in which countless land battles have been fought and many fortunes lost and giained. Radnorshire is an ancient land scattered with the imprint of countles histories, the remains of stoneage earthworks, iron age hill forts, monastic settlements and early norman castles still gace the landscape. Most of our Churches form the center of early village settlements and our towns small by English standards still echo their early market town status, most now sleepy by comparison to their once important roles still retain many 15th and 16th C buildings demarking the periods of a towns wealth and prosperity. In later years the borders have become home to many Artists and Craftsmen,,perhaps the qieter pase of life is particularly suited to the creative mind, and as many visitors to the Museum have comented it is a land full of Hidden Gems ... We have losted below some of our favorites spots to visit, and have included some places particularly praosed by visitors , most of the places listed listed are small family run enterprises that you would not nececarily find in the travel brochures.. this is our Radnorshire, small is beautifull and may be just a little bit chaotic, but none the less charming and real. Listings for 2026 to follow shortly ......
